Real estate transactions are increasingly targeted by sophisticated scam activity fueled by digital communication, remote closings, public access to property records, and evolving impersonation tactics. In this course, licensees examine modern real estate scams that commonly impact buyers, sellers, landlords, tenants, and real estate professionals, including wire fraud, seller impersonation, deed and title fraud, and rental scams. The course explains how these scams operate, why they are becoming more prevalent, and where transactions are most vulnerable to manipulation.
Through real?world examples and scenario?based discussion, participants learn to recognize warning signs such as urgency tactics, abnormal communication patterns, and documentation inconsistencies. Emphasis is placed on practical, risk?reduction strategies licensees can apply during listing, marketing, contracting, and closing stages, as well as appropriate professional responses when potential scam activity is identified. By strengthening awareness of modern scam tactics and how to spot them early, this course supports licensees in protecting clients, reducing transaction risk, and maintaining professional trust.
Iowa State Requirement Details for Real Estate Continuing Education
Renewal Date: 12/31 every three years
Hours Required: 36 hours
Note: per Iowa state regulations, a maximum of 24 hours may be taken by distance learning during each three-year renewal period. At least 12 hours of continuing education must be taken via live instruction. There is no requirement as to which course or courses are taken via live instruction.

Certificates: Immediately upon course completions, The CE Shop will provide students with an electronic copy of the course certificate of completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five years, should you need additional copies at a later time. Please refer to your application to determine if you need to submit your certificate(s) of completion. Course completion dates are recorded using Central Standard Time. Please note that the date on your certificate of completion will reflect this.
Final Exam: Final exams must be passed with a minimum of 80% and may be taken as many times as necessary in order to pass.
License Renewal Process: The process to renew in this state is to log in to the licensing system online and follow the prompts to renew.
Max Hours in a 24-Hour Period: Students will not receive credit for more than 8 hours of continuing education in a 24-hour period. Our online course delivery system manages this requirement for you.
Course Duplication: During each three-year renewal period a course may be taken for credit only once. A course may be repeated for credit ONLY if the course numbers and instructors are different.
