How do you get a Real Estate Broker license in Indiana?

  1. Complete 90 Hours of Approved Pre-Licensing Education: Take an Indiana approved 75-hr. course that includes 60 hours of education and 15 interactive hours. Learn about the different package options for this course here.

  2. Pass Your Course Final Exam: Finish all the course materials, meet the minimum time requirement, and pass the practice exam. Then, pass the final exam with a minimum score of 75%.

  3. Pass the Indiana Real Estate Broker Exam: You will have three and a half hours to complete a 140-question test that covers state and national requirements. You can find more information in the PSI Candidate Handbook. Remote proctoring is also available.

  4. Select a Sponsoring Managing Broker: You will have three and a half hours to complete a 140-question test that covers state and national requirements. You can find more information in the PSI Candidate Handbook. Remote proctoring is also available.

  5. Complete Your Real Estate License Application: Next, you need to find a sponsoring broker. This is the final requirement before you can apply for your real estate license.

  6. Provide a Criminal History Records Check: Finally, you’ll need to apply for your broker license with the Indiana Department of Financial & Professional Regulation.

What To Do After Earning Your Real Estate License

Once your application is approved, you’ll officially become a broker. That calls for celebration!

Your next step is to complete requirements for Indiana post-licensing coursework within your first three-year license renewal period. After your first renewal period, you’ll need to complete required continuing education during every renewal period following. The CE requirement applies to Indiana managing brokers as well.

Whether you remain a broker or, eventually, choose to upgrade your license to Managing Broker, here’s everything you need to know about post-licensing education and CE for both broker and managing broker licenses.

Indiana Post-Licensing Education Requirements

Both Indiana real estate brokers and managing brokers are required to complete 30 hours of post-licensing education within two years of obtaining their license. When you complete your Indiana post-licensing education and CE with The CE Shop, you will receive an electronic copy of your course certificates of completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five years, should you need additional copies at a later time. Please refer to your application to determine if you need to submit your certificate(s) of completion. Course completion dates are recorded using Central Standard Time. Please note that the date on your certificate of completion will reflect this.

Indiana Continuing Education Requirements

Continuing education is a required part of maintaining your real estate license in Indiana. Both brokers and managing brokers must complete 36 hours of CE coursework by June 30th every three years. However, keep in mind that you can’t wait until the third year to complete all the required hours — 12 of these hours must be completed each year.
