Online Proctoring Instructions

Let’s talk testing.

Notice: Due to restrictions surrounding COVID-19, the states of Arizona, New York, and South Carolina have determined that you may conduct your qualifying course final examination online with e-proctoring. This new method of completing your exam is temporary due to state regulations. Please see below to learn more about this process.

At the end of each course, we offer a practice exam. You do not need a proctor for this. Our practice exam is here to give you an idea of the kinds of questions you’ll see on the actual final, and to help you identify areas that you need to brush up on before attempting the actual exam. You can retake the course practice exam as many times as you need to pass, and we have set the passing score to be the same as the actual final exam.

After you complete all the course materials, meet the minimum time requirement (if required by your state), and pass the practice exam, there's a final exam. You must take this in an online proctor's presence. You’ll need to schedule an appointment with a proctor in advance. We strongly encourage you to schedule your exam during our Customer Services hours, Monday-Friday 7AM – 9PM CST and Saturday-Sunday 9AM – 6PM CST. The proctoring fee for Texas exams is $17.50 each and for all other states it is $25.00.

Technical Requirements

The technical requirements for the proctoring process are a bit higher than for the course. You will not be able to use a tablet, since tablets don't allow you to share your screen with a proctor. Here’s a list of what you need:

  • Laptop or desktop computer
  • Webcam
  • Microphone
  • Strong internet connection – Minimum 500 Kbps download and 256 Kbps upload; we recommend 5Mbps or higher upload and download
  • Current version of Google Chrome or some other Chromium-based browser
  • Flash player (for PC users)
  • Ability to download a small program: PSI’s secure web browser

Please be aware that macOS 10.15 Catalina has caused compatability issues and may prevent your exam from launchong properly. Please use a computer that does not have this update.

You can test your system setup easily here:

If your personal computer cannot handle these requirements, please make alternate arrangements ahead of time. Many libraries or local testing centers are fully equipped and will accommodate you for a small fee.
