How to Become a Maryland Real Estate Agent

6 Steps Toward Getting Your Maryland Salesperson License

Getting licensed for your new career might seem a bit daunting, but we’re here to guide you through the process. Read on to learn the six steps you’ll need to take before starting your career in Maryland real estate.

Eligible candidates must successfully complete 60 hours of Pre-Licensing coursework with an approved education provider.

The Maryland Real Estate Commission has approved The CE Shop to provide the 60-Hour Maryland Principles and Practices of Real Estate for Salespersons Course to satisfy this requirement.

Utilizing our advanced LEAP platform designed specifically to educate real estate professionals, this engaging online course combines the best of the classroom with the convenience and flexibility of online learning. Through real-world scenarios, practical exercises, and relevant applications, this course will provide you with everything you need to successfully begin your career as a Maryland real estate agent.

Pass the course final exam in the presence of a proctor.

At the end of the course we’ll provide a practice exam to prepare you for the 110-question course final exam. The minimum passing score is 70%.

You must take this in the presence of a proctor. You’ll need to schedule an appointment with a proctor in advance. Find out more about our online proctoring here.

Schedule and take the Maryland real estate salesperson exam with PSI Exams Online.

The Maryland Real Estate Commission employs PSI to administer state licensing exams. The exam consists of a National section (90 minutes long) and a State section (30 minutes long). The exam fee is $61.00. For the PSI Candidate Information Bulletin, and more information about the exam including how to schedule the exam, click here.

Choose a sponsoring broker.

As you go through the process of earning your license, you’ll need to be affiliated with a broker so you can practice when licensed. Picking the right broker is a key factor to becoming successful Maryland real estate agent, which is why it is important to have the right fit.

  • What is their reputation, both locally and nationally?
  • What kind of real estate agents are they looking for?
  • Are they technologically advanced and up-to-date with the latest systems?
  • How do they support their agents with education and training?
  • What kind of commission structure do they offer?
  • Do they offer benefits?
  • Do they provide their agents with leads and marketing material?
  • Is there room to grow with the brokerage?
