Prerequisites

To get your real estate license in Wisconsin, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age

  1. Complete 72 hours of approved Wisconsin Pre-Licensing education

  2. Pass the course final exam

    After you complete all course materials, you must pass the course final exam. Your Pre-Licensing school will provide this test, and upon passing you will receive a certificate of completion.

  3. Pass the Wisconsin Real Estate Exam

    After you pass the course final exam, you are eligible to take the Wisconsin real estate licensing exam. The exam is 140 questions. You can pay for the test ahead of time and reserve your spot by visiting the Pearson VUE website.

  4. Find a sponsoring broker

    In order to apply for your real estate application, you need an established relationship with a sponsoring broker. A sponsoring broker will provide the necessary training and experience as you start your real estate career.

    They will also be the authorizing body for your real estate transactions. This broker will be a career and education mentor providing you with an inside view into the day-to-day operations of a real estate agent.

    • What is their reputation, both locally and nationally?

  5. Submit your Wisconsin real estate application

    You’re now ready to complete the application for a Wisconsin Salesperson License. There is a $75 licensure fee due when you submit your application. Upon a successful application review by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services, you will be recognized as a Wisconsin salesperson in real estate.
