How Do I Get a Washington Real Estate Managing Broker License?

To become a real estate Managing Broker in Washington, an applicant must meet the prerequisites:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent
  • Be ready to answer legal background questions and provide documents if needed
  • Submit your fingerprints for the background check (due every 6 years)

Once the prerequisites have been met, an applicant must: 

  • Complete 90-hours of commission-approved Managing Broker Pre-Licensing education
  • Pass the coursework final exam with a score of 70% or greater
  • Pass the state-issued Managing Broker License exam
  • Submit license application to the state

How Long Does It Take to Get a Washington Real Estate Managing Broker License Online?

With the exception of the state-issued exam, the Washington real estate education required by the state can be completed entirely online. What is the Difference Between a Washington Broker License and Washington Managing Broker License?

A Broker is licensed to conduct business on behalf of a Managing Broker and cannot operate independently of a brokerage. A licensed Broker can become a Managing Broker if they complete the required education and examination requirements.

Can I Become a Washington Real Estate Managing Broker if I Have Felonies or Misdemeanors?

A criminal record doesn’t necessarily disqualify a candidate, but they must be ready to answer legal background questions and provide documents if needed.

How Old Do You Have to Be to Get a Managing Broker License in Washington?

Applicants must be 18 years of age.

Is Residency in Washington Required to Receive a Managing Broker License in the State?

No, applicants do not have to be a resident of Washington to receive a Washington Managing Broker License.  

What Are the Continuing Education Requirements for a Real Estate Managing Broker in Washington?

Washington real estate Managing Brokers are required to complete at least 30 hours of Continuing Education every two years, including:

  • A 3-hour Current Issues in Washington Real Estate Course
  • At least 27 hours of other approved Continuing Education

Other things to note:

  • At least 15 hours must be completed within 24 months of your renewal date
  • You may also use up to 15 hours of unused Continuing Education completed within 48 months of your renewal date
  • The hours must be started after the date of first licensure as a Managing Broker

Which States Does Washington Have License Reciprocity Agreements With?

Washington does not have direct reciprocity with any state.
