How to Upgrade Your New York Real Estate License

6 Steps Toward Getting Your New York Broker License

Getting and upgraded licensed might seem a bit daunting, but we’re here to guide you through the process. Read on to learn the six steps you’ll need to take before upgrading your license.

Qualification Requirements:

At least two years of experience as a licensed real estate salesperson or at least three years of experience in the general real estate field. Successful completion of both the qualifying salesperson 75-hour course and an additional 45-hour real estate broker course, approved by the state. Successfully passed the state broker exam.

Meet the minimum requirements.

New York requires that you have completed at least two years as a licensed salesperson or have a minimum of three years of general experience in the real estate field (i.e., buying and selling your own property, managing property owned by your employer, etc.).

A combination of these types of experience is acceptable per the New York Department of State Division of Licensing Services. Click here for more information.

You must have satisfactorily completed both the 75-hour qualifying salesperson course and the 45-hour real estate broker course.

You will need to schedule an appointment with a Department of State approved proctor in advance. Click here for a list of available proctoring locations.
