To start,

  • You must be at least 18 years of age.
  • You must have no prior felony or sex offense convictions.
  • You must have at least 2 years of experience as a licensed real estate salesperson or at least 3 years of experience in the general real estate field, or a combination of both. Despite which type of experience you have, you must have met the minimum points required for the experience type and completed the 75-hour salesperson course.

  1. Complete 45 hours of approved Pre-Licensing education.

Successfully complete an approved 45 clock hour Pre-Licensing broker course in addition to having previously completed the 75 clock hour Pre-Licensing salesperson course.

The CE Shop offers this mandatory course through our advanced web-based platform, where the best of the classroom is combined with the flexibility and convenience of online learning. We prepare you for your licensing exam while providing you with the knowledge you need to begin a promising career in real estate.

If you have received a degree from a university with a major course of study in real estate, or have a current license in another jurisdiction but are seeking licensure in New York, please see the Department of State Division of Licensing website for the education and examination requirements in detail for your specific situation.

  2. Pass the course final exam.

After you complete all the course materials, there is a course final exam. The minimum passing score is 70%. Course completions are valid for 8 years and must be used to obtain a license or they will expire and have to be retaken.

You must take the final exam in the presence of a proctor, so you’ll need to schedule an appointment with a proctor in advance. Find out more about proctoring here.

  3. Pass the New York real estate broker examination.

The exam is multiple choice and based on the 75 hour and 45 hour Pre-Licensing curriculum. You will have 2.5 hours to complete the exam. More information can be found here.

  4. Complete the application.

Upon passing the New York real estate broker exam, complete your application utilizing eAccessNY.
