How long does it take to get a Massachusetts real estate license?

The amount of time to get your Massachusetts real estate license is dependent on a number of factors, though most complete the requirements within a few months. There are a number of steps to complete which include education, passing the exam, and sponsorship by an actively licensed Massachusetts real estate broker.

How do I renew my Massachusetts real estate license?

Every agent must renew their license every two years based on their license date. Prior to the renewal date one must complete the applicable 12 hours of Continuing Education requirements and pay the renewal fee.

How do I get a Massachusetts real estate license?

To get a Massachusetts real estate salesperson license you must complete the following steps as required by the Massachusetts Real Estate Board:

  • Complete 40 hours of approved Massachusetts Pre-Licensing education
  • Pass the course final exam
  • Take the Massachusetts Real Estate Exam with PSI. Effective 3/4/2019, PSI will no longer schedule exams without approval from the MA Board of Registration of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons. Candidates must mail their application to the PSI office in Las Vegas to get pre-approved to take the licensing exam.

How long is the Massachusetts real estate license exam?

The exam is composed of 120 questions. Four hours are allotted to take the exam.

What is the determination of Good Moral Character (GMC)?

The Massachusetts Real Estate Board will determine if the applicant for licensure possessess good moral character at the time of application. Due to this review by the RE Board, it is difficult to give a definitive list of criminal acts that would preclude someone from getting a license. RE Board staff strongly suggests students review RE Board's Policy and Guidelines on Good Moral Character.
