Keep up With Your Career During the Summer

by The CE Shop Team

“Summer is the annual permission slip to be lazy. To do nothing and have it count for something.” - Regina Brett

We all know that sensation when summer is in the air. You can feel the warmth on your skin and the humidity lingering in the atmosphere. When the summer season starts, sometimes the last thing we want to do is be cooped up inside. However, it’s important to fight the impulse to take a bit of a breather during the summer, especially when you're busy with open houses every weekend rather than trips to the beach. In fact, summer is the perfect time to cultivate your career. Advance your career this season with these easy tips and tricks.

Develop a New Skill

New skills and hobbies increase your value as a real estate agent and will be financially beneficial as you seek higher positions. You’ll never be able to excel in your career if you keep the same knowledge you’ve always had. The real estate market is ever-changing and you must change with it. If you are able to develop a new skill set that integrates into your career path, it can help lead you to future leadership roles and promotions. As Inc. states, "With today's more complex business environment, learning is not just a nice thing to do--it is essential for staying on top of things... None of us can afford to remain stagnant in our knowledge."

Take a Break to Innovate

If you feel your attention span start to wane because the sunshine is calling your name, take a mental break and focus on something fresh. It’s proven that taking a break can help you refocus your efforts and it is especially needed in the summer. Taking a breather to find new and productive methods of doing your work will easily help create a more effective workplace. You don’t have to spend all of your energy dedicated to one project, especially if your concentration is diminishing due to envious weather.

Continue Learning

If the average students’ achievement scores declined by a whole month’s worth of school-year learning just over one summer vacation, imagine how much knowledge you will lose as an adult if you don’t continue learning. To truly stay on top of your game as a real estate agent, it is essential to stay up-to-date with everything that is happening in the industry. The best way to do that is through continuing education courses. Not only do these educational courses help develop your natural skills as a real estate agent, but 65% of adult learners say that their learning expanded their professional network. Lifelong learning is seen as a continuous process that occurs throughout a lifespan and will never be a “one and done” type of advancement.

Once you’ve started to develop your skills, be sure to incorporate what you’ve learned into your everyday life as a real estate agent so you don't lose that yearning for learning.
