How do I get an Alabama Real Estate Broker’s License?

Prerequisites

  • Applicant must have held an active real estate license (in any state) for at least 24 months out of the 36 months prior to applying.
  • Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident alien or legally present in the U.S.
  • Be at least 19 years old (You may submit a copy of a valid driver’s license, U.S. passport, birth certificate, or any other documentation acceptable to the Alabama Real Estate Commission.)
  • Show proof of bona fide residency in any state in the U.S.
  • Show proof of high school graduation or the equivalent.
  • Not have been convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude
  • Not have had a real estate application or license rejected or revoked in any state within the past two years.
  • After meeting the education and/or experience requirements, pass the licensing examination.

Complete the Steps:

  • Complete a state-approved 60-clock hour Pre-Licensing course (for a Reciprocal Broker’s License, only a 6-hour Pre-Licensing course is required).
  • Pass the proctored course exams with a 70% or better
  • Pass the National & Alabama Real Estate Brokers Licensing Exam (those seeking a reciprocal license only have to take the
  • Alabama portion of the state exam)
  • Submit fingerprints for the purpose of a background check
  • Submit the application to the state

How long does it take to get an Alabama Real Estate Broker’s License online?

With the exception of testing, the Alabama real estate education can be completed entirely online. The CE Shop offers packages for 60 clock hours which can be completed online. Students are allowed to complete up to 9 hours of coursework per day, meaning it could be completed in as few as 7 days.

How much does it cost to get an Alabama Real Estate Brokers License Online?

In addition to the cost of education, those looking to acquire a real estate license will have to pay: 

  • $150 License Fee
  • $30 Research and Education Fee (If you already have an Alabama license you have already paid this fee and do not need to pay again)
  • $30 Recovery Fund Fee (Again if you have an Alabama real estate license do not include this fee)

What is the Difference Between an Alabama Salesperson License & a Broker?

A Salesperson is licensed to conduct business on behalf of a Broker and cannot operate independently of a brokerage. A licensed Salesperson can become a Broker if they complete the required education and examination requirements.

Can I become an Alabama Real Estate Broker if I have felonies or misdemeanors?

In most cases, those convicted of a felony must wait at least five years before applying whereas those convicted of misdemeanors must have to wait one year.

How old do you have to be to get a Real Estate Broker’s License in Alabama?

Applicants must be 19 years of age.

Is Residency in Alabama Required to Receive a Broker’s License in the State?

No, applicants do not have to be a resident of Alabama to receive an Alabama license.
