How To Get Your Real Estate License in Virginia
Are you ready to begin your new career as a Virginia real estate agent? The CE Shop has everything you need to get started and set up for success.
Hi, I’m Erica with The CE Shop, here to tell you that getting your Virginia real estate license is as easy as following these six steps.
Step 1: Education
First-time licensee candidates in Virginia are required to take 60 hours of Pre-Licensing education. This coursework can be taken in person or online in a convenient do-at-your-own-pace format such as the program offered by The CE Shop.
Step 2: Course Final
After you complete all course materials, meet the minimum time requirement, and pass the practice exam, you must take a final exam. This exam consists of 120 questions and the minimum passing score is 75%.
This final exam has to be taken in the presence of a proctor, and you’ll need to schedule an appointment with a proctor in advance. Find out more about our online proctoring process by watching this video.
Step 3: Licensing Exam
Once you’ve passed your course final exam, you will next schedule, take, and pass your state licensing exam. The Virginia Real Estate Commission contracts with PSI to facilitate and administer the salesperson licensing exam. You’ll have to submit a digital photo of yourself in order to sit for the exam, and more details can be found here.
Step 4: Sponsor
To start a new career in Virginia real estate, you must have a broker sponsor you through the licensing process and to provide you with a launchpad for your new career. This broker will be your career and education mentor, and will provide you with an inside view of the day-to-day operations of being a real estate agent. It’s important to find a good fit when picking a broker to work with because it’s a key factor to becoming successful.
Step 5: Application
Once you’ve passed the state licensing exam, you’ll need to download, complete, and mail in the Application for Salesperson License. This application is available through Virginia’s Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation website.
Step 6: Your License
Once the application is approved, your Virginia real estate salesperson license will be issued to you. With your new license, a great mentor, and the Virginia real estate knowledge gained from your Pre-Licensing education, you’re now ready to begin your new career.
