Are you ready to begin your new career as a South Carolina real estate agent? The CE Shop has everything you need to get started and set up for success.

Hi, I’m Erica with The CE Shop, here to tell you that getting your South Carolina real estate license is as easy as following these six steps.

Step 1: Education

First-time licensee candidates in South Carolina are required to take 90 hours of Pre-Licensing education consisting of two courses. The first is a 60-hour Unit 1 course, which must be completed before you can take the licensing exam. The second is a 30-hour Unit 2 course, which must be taken after the first course but may be taken after the licensing exam. These courses can be taken in person or online in a convenient do-at-your-own-pace format such as the program offered by The CE Shop.

Step 2: Course Final

After you complete all course materials, meet the minimum time requirements, and pass the practice exams, you must take a final exam for each course. These exams have a minimum passing score of 70% and can be taken as many times as needed in order to pass.

Each final exam has to be taken in the presence of a proctor, and you’ll need to schedule an appointment with a proctor in advance. Learn more about the in-person proctoring process here. [motion to pop-up link]

Step 3: Background Check

The South Carolina Real Estate Commission requires that all real estate license candidates complete a criminal background check, and you can request a background check on the Commission’s website.

Step 4: Sponsor

To start a new career in South Carolina real estate, you must have a broker sponsor you through the licensing process and to provide you with a launchpad for your new career. This broker will be your career and education mentor, and will provide you with an inside view of the day-to-day operations of being a real estate agent. It’s important to find a good fit when picking a broker to work with because it’s a key factor to becoming successful.

Step 5: Licensing Exam

Once you’ve passed your course final exams, you will next schedule, take, and pass your state licensing exam. The South Carolina Real Estate Commission contracts with PSI to facilitate and administer the salesperson licensing exam, and first you must apply with the Commission to take the exam. Once your exam application is approved, you’ll receive an examination eligibility letter which allows you to register for your exam time with PSI. For more information, please see the South Carolina Candidate Handbook.

Step 6: Your License

You must apply for your license with the Commission within on year of taking your licensing exam. Once issued, your license will be mailed to your broker-in-charge. With your new license, a great mentor, and the South Carolina real estate knowledge gained from your Pre-Licensing education, you’re now ready to begin your new career.
