Start the New Year Off Right with These Top 5 NYE Resolutions for Real Estate Agents

With NYE and 2020’s arrival, you’re (probably) taking a breather from the day-to-day hustle of being a real estate agent and instead of spending time with family away from the office. It’s a deserved break, so pop open that expensive bottle of Johnny Walker and pour yourself a nice thick glass of “a job well done.”

While you’re ruminating with that drink in your hand, take a look at these suggested New Years' Eve resolutions made specifically for real estate agents like yourself. These five simple rules will help you expand and manage your marketing presence, leads, and client base while also helping you retool your mind and body in preparation for an exciting new year of opportunity.

Top 5 NYE Resolutions for Real Estate Agents

1) Spend Time on Optimizing Your Website

Over 63% of people do their internet surfing on their mobile device. Without a mobile-optimized website, you’ll exclude over half the United States population. If this sounds like a bad business practice, it’s because it is.

Let us preface this one more time: You need a website that works seamlessly on a phone or tablet. Otherwise, your competition has an immediate leg up on you. Don’t be that real estate agent. Optimize that website and increase your awareness. Upgrading will provide an immediate uptick in your business.

2) Follow The 4 H Club Rules for CRM

One of the biggest non-curriculum questions we receive from students and real estate agents is “How do I generate new business?” In search of the answer, we stumbled upon a fantastic set of tactics for creating leads and managing relations by Sean Carpenter of Coldwell Banker. Coined as The 4 H Club Rules, this Customer Relationship Management strategy could be used by anyone in a sales position.

By following this 30-minute routine, you’ll be able to develop dozens of “touches” before your morning coffee.

Execute these tactics when entering the office:

  • Write 3 to 5 Handwritten Notes to People in Your Sphere of Influence

These can and should be written to anyone who is within your sphere of influence: A recent client who just closed a house, an old friend who is looking to make a home change, your old boss to congratulate him on retiring, and the list goes on and on.

  • Hot Sheet for Your Town

Create a hot sheet of all the new listings that have gone up in your town. If you see a home that is up for sale within a 2-mile radius of a client or friend, give them a call. Even if it is not your listing, keeping them in the know and demonstrating that you care will pay dividends in the long run.

  • Happy Birthdays

Go on Facebook and see which of your friends are having birthdays today. Wish them a Happy Birthday, either through social or a phone call and make sure to be unique and sincere with your message.

  • High Fives - 5 x 5

Your “high fives” will be your way of expanding your social media presence. Execute these steps to create at least 25 “touches” with this tactic alone.

  • Facebook: “Like” 5 posts on your social feed and make 5 comments on other posts
  • Twitter: Make 5 comments or retweets
  • Instagram: Make 5 Instagram comments on stories or posts
  • Text Messages: Text 5 random people to “catch up” or discuss something of mutual interest

If you make 5 handwritten notes + 3 phone calls + 3 Happy Birthdays + 25 interactions on Facebook, that equals 36 “touches” with potential leads, clients, and others within your Sphere of Influence, all done before chugging down your daily triple espresso macchiato Starbucks drink.

3) Finish Your Continuing Education Early

There’s no better feeling than blasting off into the new year with your Continuing Education completed. Starting 2020 off on the right foot will not only get you ahead, it will relieve the stress of having to deal with your renewal deadlines. And as we all know, less stress allows you the ability to concentrate on the more important tasks, like growing your real estate career.

4) Exercise for Mental Fortitude

Speaking of less stress, creating a 5-day-a-week exercise routine “never hurt nobody.” Spacing out time for daily workouts will help boost your mood, energy levels, memory, and motivation while reducing stress.

Try and find at least 20 minutes a day for aerobic exercises like running, biking, or swimming and get those endorphins flowing. Over time, you’ll see the difference, both with your mind and waistline.

5) Meditate for Success

Meditation is one of the most underrated activities you can do for your brain and sanity. The smartphone applications Calm and Headspace are two amazing, proven apps that will guide you through the meditative process. Spending even 2 minutes a day closing off your thoughts from the world and simply “being” will help get your head into the game and be ready for whatever the world throws at you.
