There’s no perfect way to reflect just how searing hot the real estate market is today, especially for the affluent. Money can do a lot in times of a pandemic, but one thing most wouldn’t consider is purchasing a home for close to $50 million. But, hey, that’s just one of the many perks to being in the upper echelon of society.

In September 2020, fashion icon Tommy Hilfiger listed his Greenwich estate on the market for a jaw-dropping $47.5 million. Hilfiger and his wife, Dee, purchased the home in 2010 for $31 million and gave the estate a complete luxurious makeover over the course of six years. The turreted manor mansion resembles that of a magical French countryside retreat.

“At an elevation of 570 feet, the highest point in Greenwich, the property offers commanding views of the New York City skyline and Long Island Sound,” said listing agent Janet Milligan of Sotheby’s International Realty Greenwich Brokerage.

The European-style estate resides on 22+ lush acres with unbeatable views that stretch as far as Long Island Sound and the Manhattan skyline. The 13,344-sq.-ft. home was restored and renovated from its original form. Originally built in 1939 for then-real estate tycoon George V. Paterno, Hilfiger hired an all-star team of designers, interior professionals, and artisan landscapers upon purchasing the property. The home is meticulously detailed down to each floorboard. Here’s a brief rundown of Hilfiger’s former estate:

  • Six bedrooms
  • Seven full bathrooms
  • Three powder rooms
  • Theater room
  • Wine cellar with tasting room
  • Detached four-bay garage
  • Pool
  • Tennis court
  • Great lawn
  • Greenhouse
  • Guesthouse
  • Tea house

On top of these stunning home features, the 22-acre property is home to four mystical gardens, modeled after English and French countryside living estates. This well-maintained greenery envelopes the estate and creates an escape from the hustle and bustle like no other. Other outdoor opulence on the estate includes:

  • Fountain rose garden
  • Water garden with koi pond
  • Boxwood knot garden
  • Topiary garden

The Hilfigers aren’t new to this elite real estate game, having sold another estate in Greenwich in 2009 for $20 million as well as a Mediterranean-style mansion in Palm Beach, FL for $35 million in 2017. Along with the French chateau in Greenwich, the couple is currently in the process of selling a mansion in Miami for $24.5 million. We hope their real estate agents enjoy their commission and look forward to owning our own ~$50 million mansion someday.
