Toad Suck, Arkansas Is “Toadally” Out There

by The CE Shop Team

Welcome to Toad Suck

Like Kanye West’s Yeezy sneakers or the new Tesla Cybertruck, sometimes it pays to be different — even if it’s a bit grotesque. “Toad Suck”, Arkansas is geographical nomenclature that many would definitely consider different, if not a bit gross. But contrary to the mental images you may be suppressing right now, Toad Suck doesn’t toadally suck.

What Exactly Is Toad Suck?

To set the record straight, Toad Suck isn’t a town. It’s a recreation area nestled along the banks of the Arkansas River. The name apparently stems from the days when the river was only passable via ferry and a tavern operated on the Perry County side. There, people would “suck ‘em down” until they were swollen like a toad and likely engage in other frowned upon acts... Let’s leave it at that.

Today, however, Toad Suck is less of an escape from the world of sobriety and more of an attraction. In an interview with Bloomberg CityLab, Scott Freyer, an employee of the Army Corps of Engineers and manager of Toad Suck Park, said that the name actually garners "a lot of positive attention... it's a name that draws people in."

In fact, Toad Suck is fully embraced by locals in nearby Conway, Arkansas. For the past three decades, nearly 160,000 locals and visitors have made their way to Conway to attend the toad-themed festival, Toad Suck Daze. It’s a three-day family-friendly event spanning eight city blocks that includes concerts, shopping, carnival rides, children’s activities, and, of course, the World Championship Toad Races.

Of course, COVID-19 has limited both 2020 and 2021’s events, but organizers are getting creative. Last year, Toad Suck Daze saw its first air parade where locals could safely witness the flyover, and talks of drive-through attractions are in the works.

Sadly, if you or your client want a Toad Suck address, you’re out of luck - but don’t be hopping mad. Nearby Conway is home to some absolutely stunning properties like this 3 bed, 3 bath abode, listed for $394,999, in the coveted Edgewood Park neighborhood.
