Discover the Benefits and Skills You’ll Develop as a Real Estate Agent

If you’re reading this article, you’ve either quit your job––hopefully not like this guy––or you’re on the verge of making a career change into real estate. That’s awesome. You’ve just completed the hardest task of telling yourself, “I want to do something worthwhile” and then picked up your laptop or smartphone and began your research into this amazing career and the benefits and skills that you’ll develop.

What Happens When You Work as a Real Estate Agent?

When you start a new career in real estate, you’ll develop new skills and experience these amazing benefits:

1) You’ll Control Your Own Schedule

If you hate the 9-5 where the company controls how many days off you get paid, real estate is absolutely right for you. The flexibility of when you work, where you work, and how you work is solely dependent on you.

2) You’ll Call the Shots

Sick of bosses micromanaging your day? When you work as a real estate agent, you work for yourself. No one tells you what you need to do or when to do it. That job is reserved for you.

3) You’ll Develop Your Social IQ

The majority of people joining the ranks of real estate agents probably consider themselves to be social. What they don’t consider is their social intelligence. Working as an agent, you'll come into contact with hundreds––if not thousands––of new leads every month. Through these interactions, you’ll begin to understand the differences in personas and what makes these people tick. In turn, these experiences will help increase your social IQ and increase your client base and sales.

4) You’ll Learn What Works and What Doesn’t

Pursuing an independent career allows you to become an “experimenter.” This sandbox arena places you in a position to try new things and discover what strategies and tactics work best for you. Once you figure out what’s working, you’ll put yourself in a position to succeed.

5) You’ll Become Happier

Unsurprisingly, when people take control of all aspects of their careers, they become happier. Instead of last-minute project surprises, or annoying co-workers who clip their toenails right onto your desk, you’ll create the environment designed for your work happiness. This power to control your happiness is one of the main motivators for Pre-Licensing students.

6) You’ll Make What You Put Into It

The hours you put in, clients you gain, and homes you help buy and sell are all directly correlated to your work ethic. Working overtime without pay is a thing of the past when you join the rank of real estate agents.

7) You’ll Become a Center of Influence

Centers of Influence are people who are connected to a large, expansive network that can include all professions. Paul Revere is the perfect example of a COI; he utilized his expanded network to successfully warn of the British invasion.

When you become a real estate agent, you’ll begin to develop this COI social positioning, as well as utilize other COIs to expand your network. The stronger you are as a COI, the more likely you’ll prosper as an agent.

Real estate is a rewarding career that will change your life forever. It requires an immense amount of effort and skill development. However, the rewards of putting the time in through flexibility and independence make it a career that’s worth it.
