Chupacabras in Southern California Need Homes

Chupacabras are one of the most well-known mythical creatures in the U.S. that seemingly appeared out of thin air — not centuries ago, but as late as the 1990s in Puerto Rico. In 1995, reports of sheep found entirely drained of blood sparked public intrigue. Comedian Silverio Pérez is credited with naming the murderous beast “El Chupacabra,” which translates to “The Goat Sucker.”

These creepy critters have plagued livestock for decades and are one of the few mythical creatures in the country that consistently terrorizes humans and animals alike.

California's Chupacabra

Chupacabras Come to Light

For years, chupacabras were the product of tall tales, skeptical sightings, but thanks to the media, the legend has spread like wildfire. In the late ‘90s, chupacabras were described as “alien, bipedal, [and] spiky-backed.” Tales of these horrifying beasts circulated among Spanish-speaking countries for about five years, gaining international traction thanks to retellings on "Cristina," a Spanish equivalent of Oprah Winfrey's show.

In the mid-2000s, chupacabras began to morph into something decidedly more canine in nature. Ranchers across the U.S. reported seeing dog-like creatures and finding livestock drained to the last drop.

Chupacabras in the Americas have been described as four-legged, hairless, scaley, and exude a sulphuric scent. Reports of chupacabras have been made in rural areas across the continental United States, with Texas and California boasting plenty of goat-sucking action.

Desert Dwellings for Chupacabra

As a real estate agent, it’s your duty to help clients of all kinds — including the mythical. While the median home value in Southern California is $667,000, we’re confident that crafty chupacabras have more than enough chump change lying around to find their dream property. This uncanny canine creature needs room to roam and primarily lives in desert ecosystems. To help you close this deal and keep your blood, we’ve found three potential properties that the Chupacabra can call home.

Twentynine Palms, CA - $430,000

Twentynine Palms, California

Located minutes away from the Cleghorn Lakes Wilderness Area, Sheephole Valley Wilderness, and Joshua Tree National Park, canine cryptid will have plenty of space to wander the desert landscape. The home itself is on a 15-acre lot, with 2 acres fenced, providing plenty of privacy for our four-legged friend.

Mountain Center, CA - $1,025,000

The 4 bed, 3.5 bath home boasts a stone fireplace, gourmet kitchen, and a large master suite with spa-like bathroom features. This property and its spa-like bath may be exactly what chupacabras need to shake off that sulphuric scent.
