If you had or have a net worth of around $20 million, where would you live? If you said Austin, you’re not alone. Famous Hollywood actor Elijah Wood, best known for his major role in The Lord of the Rings movie series also calls Austin home - or at least he did before selling his stunning, yet seemingly modest, Bouldin Creek Victorian for $1.8 million in October of last year.

Can we blame him? Austin’s luxury housing market has been roaring like a glassblower’s furnace, which is probably why the film star decided to put his place up for sale. Wood first purchased the property in 2012 for $1.075 million and has since made plenty of upgrades to the 130-plus-year-old Victorian charmer.

Bouldin Creek May Not Be The Shire, But It’s Still a Magical Place

Renovations include a frameless glass shower and freestanding clawfoot tub, a generous amount of opulent Carrera marble tile, new electrical throughout, new plumbing throughout, new central HVAC, and amazing window work in the main bedroom.

Sadly, however, the house seems to be void of any nods to The Shire, but we’re willing to bet that the new owners can place themselves there with a little bit of Tolkein, a locally crafted mug of ale, and a rocking chair on the wrap-around porch.

Still, the actor will likely walk away with a healthy return on investment in what appears to be a seemingly prudent move for an A-list celebrity. But that shouldn’t come as a surprise; Wood’s former abode — a 4 bed, 5 bath house originally constructed in 1890 — isn’t the typical mega-mansion monstrosity with crazy game rooms and theatres we tend to see from the mega-star type, but rather 3,285 square feet of tastefully preserved historic property.

It’s also in a great location. Bouldin Creek is one of Austin’s many cradles of creativity and is home to some of Austin’s best restaurants like Lenoir, which helped put Austin on the culinary radar of foodies everywhere.

We’re not sure where the actor has moved to or what he’s up to, but one thing’s for certain: Elijah Wood definitely has great taste in real estate.
