Celebrate Holidazzle From a Safe Distance
Every December, thousands of Minneapolis locals and visitors gather for Holidazzle, the city’s bright and cheery seasonal celebration. The event is typically held at Loring Park in downtown Minneapolis, one of the city’s most desirable neighborhoods (see this stunning 2 bed, 3 bath, a stone’s throw from the park) featuring an abundance of wide-open space and ease of access. Historically, the Holidazzle event has featured plenty of free activities, festive firework shows, outdoor movie nights, and more. This year, however, the beloved holiday tradition will see a pandemic shakeup.
Holidazzle’s COVID-19 Updates
Organized by the Minneapolis Downtown Council and Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, Holidazzle is the reimagined version of an annual local light parade established in the 1990s. To expand its offerings and spread even more holiday cheer, the parade was converted to a stationary event in Loring Park in 2015. Since then, attendees have enjoyed the event’s local holiday shopping opportunities, free ice skating at the nearby WinterSkate Ice Rink, art installations, and, of course, dazzling light displays.
Unfortunately, COVID-19 has prompted some Holidazzle changes this year. Organizers didn’t want to deny attendees the usual fun activities, shopping, and a healthy dose of holiday spirit, but the in-person event at Loring Park and the WinterSkate Ice Rink has been canceled for 2020. Instead, an array of activities and programming will be available virtually.
Attendees are encouraged to stay home and plug in with Comcast, who is sponsoring and televising this year’s event. The planned content and activities include holiday recipes, virtual ice skating lessons, weekly social media challenges, local food spotlights, and more. People of all ages can tune in and, even if you’re not spending the holidays in Minnesota, can still enjoy this fun and festive community celebration.
How to Partake in Minnesota’s Annual Holidazzle Event in 2020
Holidazzle 2020 began late last month and spans through the end of December. On 12/3, 12/10, and 12/17, four new shows will be produced and posted to Holidazzle.com as well as broadcast through Comcast’s X1 platform. Those with a reliable TV and surround-sound setup, like the basement lounge area in this 3 bed, 3 bath, may not even notice the change of venue!
To make the most of this year’s experience, keep an eye on the Holidazzle website. Schedules and offerings will be posted and updated regularly, so you can plan around your favorite programming. For more festive fun, you can also connect through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using the hashtag #Holidazzle.
