Buckeye Ballers: Ohio’s Understated Luxury Home Market

by The CE Shop Team

Ohio’s Luxury Market Holds Plenty of Surprises

When imagining a luxury home market, you’d typically picture mansions sitting shoreside or lush “rustic” cabins resting deep in the mountains. However, for those who are looking to get the most bang for their buck, understated luxury markets like Ohio’s offer Midwest mansions that rarely fetch prices over $10 million.

Ohio’s Luxury Home Market

Despite being impacted by the pandemic, 2020 was a record-breaking year for Central Ohio. The market saw the sale of 217 homes that sold for $1M+, up 43% year over year.

This demand for bigger and better homes was a trend that extended beyond Ohio’s borders. Across the nation, the luxury home market has witnessed an increase in buyers’ demand for more space since 2020 with an emphasis on gathering space while providing rooms for privacy. Second-home purchases also increased during this time, indicating that many Americans wanted to find a new retreat where they could safely gather with family and friends.

"The luxury market is the strongest I have ever seen in my almost 35 years as a REALTOR®," said Marilyn Vutech, a partner in the German Village firm.

Luxury Real Estate Market

Are you daydreaming about touring and selling impeccable properties like these? Becoming a luxury real estate agent isn’t impossible, but it does take a lot of hard work and dedication to serve clients whose time is quite literally money. Understandably, then, mastering this market requires significant patience and a solid work ethic.

Each property is unique, and it requires vision to highlight the one-of-a-kind features found in the home. It’s also worth noting that, while the commission checks tend to be larger for luxury real estate agents, they’re also less frequent. These glamorous homes often appeal to a smaller audience who typically take years to locate and then successfully navigate the purchasing process.

If you’re interested in becoming a luxury real estate agent, we have a guide to help you break into this lucrative niche here.
