Atari’s New Downtown Phoenix Hotel Will Be Open This Year
One of the most beloved gaming brands of all time is taking its talents to the hotel hospitality sector in Phoenix. Atari, led by founder Shelly Murphy and Napoleon Smith III, will be opening up its first hotel later this year.
Atari says it's “pioneering an exciting new concept: a unique lodging experience combining the iconic brand with a one-of-a-kind video game-themed destination.” The fully-immersive experience will cater to all gaming abilities and will even feature a VR and AR component.
With the esports industry generating over $1 billion, real estate developer True North Studio and GSDGroup, with Steve Wozniack’s Woz Innovation Foundation and DesTechAZ, will be working with Atari to bring this vision to life. Together, they believe this experience will be one of a kind. “We knew that Atari would be the perfect way to give guests the ‘nostalgic and retro meets modern’ look and feel we were going for. Let’s face it, how cool will it be to stay inside an Atari?!” said Napoleon Smith III.
The video game industry is a massive industry, growing 9.6% last year alone. With the rise of esport teams and gaming personas like Ninja, the Atari Hotel looks like a good bet for the immediate future. It is these types of projects that will help propel Phoenix into the major cities category.
Atari Hotels will first open up in Phoenix and are planned to open other locations in Las Vegas, Denver, Chicago, Austin, Seattle, San Francisco, and San Jose.
