7 Best Virginia Wines That Make Great Closing Gifts

by The CE Shop Team

Virginia Wineries Are Among the Best Closing Gifts

They say Virginia is for lovers, but where there are lovers there’s usually wine. Thus it comes as no surprise that Virginia is home to some pretty stellar wineries, so if you or your client is into the craft, there’s no better way to say “thank you” or “congratulations” than with a bottle from one of Virginia’s finest.

1) Blenheim Vineyards

Owned by singer-songwriter Dave Matthews, who first formed the Dave Matthews Band in Charlottesville, Blenheim Vineyards prides itself on its Painted White Chardonnay/Viognier/Sauvignon Blanc blend and its nicely balanced Painted Red Bordeaux-style blend. The property even includes the original house built in 1730.

2) Early Mountain Winery

Owned by AOL founder Steve Case, the Early Mountain Winery is a wine lovers’ paradise. Not only do they feature their own carefully crafted Bordeaux-centric wines, but they’re also not afraid to serve some of their competitors’ offerings as well as locally sourced food. As for which bottle to take home, try the Gov. Cup Gold Medalist, the Petit Manseng 2018.

3) Breaux Vineyards

One of the state’s largest and most prominent vineyards, Breaux Vineyards grows 18 grape varieties on a breathtaking picturesque 100 acres in Purcellville to create its premium libations. They may be known in some circles for their Cabernet Franc Breaux, but any wine from Breaux Vineyards will certainly set the occasion.

4) Fabbioli Cellars

Fabbioli Cellars is a refreshing departure from traditional winemaking and, as a result, produces wines you can’t find anywhere else. The Raspberry Merlot seems to be a favorite among the adventurous tasters in the bunch, however you really can’t go wrong with any of the wines offered, including their flagship Tannet.

5) Michael Shaps Wineworks

After studying in France, where he also owns a winery, Michael Shaps opened his Virginia-local winery, Michael Shaps Wineworks in 2007. Since then, he’s brought the old-world methods and techniques right to our backyards, creating some of the best tasting traditional wines in the region. For those looking to impress, opt for the Shaps’ Petit Verdot and Viognier.

6) Three Fox Vineyards

Three Fox Vineyards, just an hour’s drive outside of D.C., is a dog- and child-friendly place that offers city-dwellers a welcomed respite. It happens to make some excellent wine as well. Unlike many of Virginia’s wineries, which are heavily franc-o-fied, Three Fox specializes in Italian styles that are perfect for Italian wine lovers.

7) The Williamsburg Winery

As one of Virginia’s established and most respected wineries, you can’t go wrong with a bottle from The Williamsburg Winery. For a well-balanced, fruit-forward but earthy glass we recommend their 2017 Merlot, but really any bottle will leave an impression, and in the end that’s what we’re going for.
