5 Things That Will Surprise Outsiders About Salt Lake City

by The CE Shop Team

Salt Lake City Never Ceases to Amaze

Salt Lake City is low-key one of the coolest cities in the United States of America. What many think of as a smaller, mild-mannered hub for families and church-goers actually has a little bit of something for everyone, as well as a few things that will surprise those friends, family, and potential clients visiting from out of state.

5. Fry Sauce

Salt Lake City is home to several amazing places to grab a burger and fries, but whether you’re going to Rich’s Burgers-N-Grub or a classic In-N-Out, one thing is certain: there’s no shortage of fry sauce. A tangy combo of ketchup and mayonnaise, fry sauce is a Utah staple that can be enjoyed any way your heart desires.

4. The Great Outdoors

Salt Lake City is surrounded by world-class outdoor recreation areas. Park City, Utah, known for attracting celebrities, great nightlife, and its world-renowned snow quality is just a quick 40-minute drive from the capital city, making it one of the most accessible ski areas in the country.

3. Bonneville Salt Flats

Speaking of unique natural features, the Great Salt Lake and its Bonneville salt flats are an iconic destination for car and motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the world. Located just over 1.5 hours outside of Salt Lake City, visitors can drive their machines on the same salt flats where land speed records have been shattered. The current land speed record for a wheeled vehicle of 482.646 miles-per-hour was set at Bonneville in 2018.

2. Utah Has Its Fair Share of Distilleries and Breweries

Whether you’re sipping High West Whiskey in Park City or throwing back a few cold ones at Epic Brewing, there’s enough of the good stuff to go around. In 2019, Utah state legislature passed Utah SB 132 which relaxed some of the state’s rules when it comes to beer, meaning you can enjoy craft beer just like anywhere else.

1. It’s Affordable

Good brews, mountain views, and lots of economic opportunities usually mean real estate is expensive, however in Salt Lake City that’s not the case. Sure, Salt Lake City proper with a median home value of $419k is a touch on the expensive side, but housing in nearby suburbs like West Valley City averages closer to $309k and that’s much more manageable, especially when compared to other mountain havens like Denver or Seattle.
