Get the Best 2019 Home Upgrades for You and Your Clients' Home
You know what they say, if you ain’t upgrading your house, you ain’t trying. Okay, maybe they don’t say that. Regardless, wouldn’t it be nice to get the one awesome appliance that makes all the cool parents in the neighborhood go, “Ooooh, ahhh...honey, you need to purchase this for me as soon as possible or we’re getting divorced!” Okay, maybe they’re not saying that either, but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t splurge a little and get your or your clients’ house up to par with 21st-century home technology.
We asked people around the office what their favorite new house upgrades are. These are their recommendations.
1) Nest Learning Thermostat
Currently on its 3rd generation model, the Nest Learning Thermostat is the ultimate appliance for creating the perfect home temperature. Within one week, this sleek stainless steel thermo will automatically adapt to your heating and cooling preferences while creating an automatic schedule. There’s also built-in Wi-Fi connectivity for iOS and Android phones, meaning if you’re too lazy to get up from your couch watching The Office for the 15 millionth time, you can easily change the temperature from your cellular device. Its Auto-Away technology also makes it a fantastic energy saver for conserving unneeded energy when you’re not home.
Amazon (and our Content Marketing Manager) gives this product 4.5 out of 5 stars.
Put on that Styx album and get your domo arigato, Mr. Roboto dance on with the BotVac, a 7th generation “unstoppable cleaning device that goes the distance”. This bad boy uses LaserSmart navigation technology that blows away the competition. With multiple floor plan mapping, and No-Go lines so your bot doesn’t get stuck, you’d be a fool not to purchase this suction machine.
Their website has a 4 out of 5 stars rating, which we completely agree with.
Sick of spending thousands of dollars to companies like ADT who seem to call the police every time your neighborhood squirrel taps on your window? Well, we’ve got a product for you…
Introducing iSmartAlarm, the do-it-yourself, self-monitoring home security system that costs only 35 Starbucks macchiatos. iPhone and Android enabled, this no contract, no monthly fee, no frills alarm system provides you with phone and text alerts that include video surveillance so you can decide when to call the cops. This gives you the option of buying the full package and going all defcon one over your compound...or just purchase the minimal package and get the right security for your needs.
Amazon has this rated as a 3 out of 5 stars, but our Marketing Director claims it saved her and her kids’ lives (and money) when a burglar tried to break in last spring. Thus, The CE Shop overrules Bezos and gives this product a 5 out of 5 stars.
4) Kwikset Kevo Deadbolt
Close your eyes and imagine the scene. It’s late at night. You’ve got a screaming toddler in one hand, a bag full of Trader Joe’s groceries in the other, and now you have to drop everything just to get your keys to open your home door. What if we told you that with the Kwikset Kevo Deadbolt you don’t have to fish for keys ever again?
The Kevo is revolutionizing the deadbolt lock industry. With this super-secure lock, you only need your phone’s bluetooth to automatically open the door. It’s that simple. Better yet, let’s say you’re away on vacation and your friend needs to get something in your house. Just go on the app and let them in. Or, what if you want to know when your son tries sneaking out to go “hang out” with his girlfriend? The Kevo app will send you a notification telling you, “Oh, boy, someone is in big big trouble.”
Amazon gives this appliance 5 out of 5 stars. We concur.
5) Alexa Smart Plugs
Everyone, including their 97-year old grandma, has an Alexa. We know this isn’t something new. But do you know about the Amazon Smart Plugs?
“These devices will change your life,” one of our colleagues announced over Slack. “After you plug in and set up these bad boys, anything is possible.” Hyperbole aside, these devices make the “Clap On” look like stone-age technology. Need to turn on a light, but can’t get up? “Hey Alexa, turn on the lights.” Done. Need to turn off your punk son’s obnoxious dubstep music keeping you up all night? “Hey Alexa, turn off that damn racket.” Boom, done.
Simply plug into any outlet, insert whatever electrical appliance you want, and gain complete control, both by voice and through the Alexa app, of everything in your house.
Amazon has this rated 4.5 out of 5 stars. Not bad, eh?
