Every two (2) years, fifteen (15) clock hours of Real Estate Continuing Education is required.
- Licensees renew on August 31st every odd-numbered year for Salespersons, and February 28th every odd-numbered year for Brokers.
- Example: If you first obtained your license after March 1 (Broker) or September 1 (Salesperson) of 2005, you are exempt from taking CE courses to renew your license for the 2007-2009 licensing cycle however, you will be required to properly renew your license.
- Nine (9) hours must be mandatory hours: 3 hours of Fair Housing, 3 hours of Financing Issues/Update, and 3 hours of DC Legislative Updates. Due to the fact that we are a distance education provider, we are not allowed by D.C. to offer the mandatory courses at this time. Choose from the six (6) hours of elective courses you need to also take above.
- All courses must be completed within 3 months from the time of enrollment per DC guidelines.
Immediately upon real estate course completion, The CE Shop will provide students with an electronic copy of the course Certificate of Completion. Certificates will remain in your account for a minimum of five (5) years, should you need additional copies at a later time. Licensees are encouraged to retain copies of their Certificates of Completion in the event that they are audited by the state. Please refer to your renewal application to determine if you need to submit your Certificate(s) of Completion with your renewal.
Real estate course completions are reported to the Washington, D.C. Department of Consumer & Regulatory Affairs every Monday in the early afternoon. It may take 2-4 business days from the time we report your hours before the Commission updates your license and/or updates their website with the hours.
